WATERLOO STREET COMMUNITY GARDEN

W H O   W E   A R E

 

Permission to Garden was applied for and a license granted by Brighton and Hove City Council, to use the space as a Community Garden. An agreement to this effect was drawn up by the Council’s legal department and  Bill Cowell agreed to accept responsibility for its upkeep and maintenance.

The Garden was then resurrected from its derelict state to what you see now. Bill Cowell is the Guardian of this Garden. There are a team of volunteers who help maintain the Garden.

Twice a year we appeal for donations from local residents and this has over the years helped in purchasing plants and  secondhand park benches that we have restored. Numerous large pots have been purchased and two new rose beds built. All the plants were paid for from local residents donations.

What you see now is as a result of 7 years hard work.

 

W H A T   W E   D O

 

Waterloo Street Community Garden is a community based project that maintains the garden built between The Old Market and the Waterloo Street Arch. WSCG is now maintaining this garden and Bill Cowell (founder of the East Brunswick Residents Association) is the appointed Guardian.

Volunteers from the residents around The Old Market (TOM) give up their valuable time to weed, plant, prune, water and generally maintain the garden.

 

A GARDEN FOR THE GARDENLESS

 

We are looking to create and maintain a pleasant environment for the residents to get to know their neighbours, exchange ideas and make friends. Most people in this central location in Hove do not have an outside space to relax in and so they use the garden as an extension of their homes.
